if
the
Youngbloods
and Strangeloves
held
a
world tour
it would probably be called the
strange

but that might attract the vampire movie crowd accidentally
and wouldn't that be a clash of cultures. (or a crash of vultures?!)

Everybody's got one so let's opine
There are two great rock n roll questions that have never been fully explained. You know that's what we're here for. To give you an opportunity to vent and tell us their meanings.
Now is the time for you to take a shot at them:
1. We know he jumped off the Tallahachee Bridge, but what exactly did Billy Jo McAllister do up on Chocktaw Ridge to cause all this commotion?
2. What did Mary Hill do after dark in Cherry Hill Park to cause such a thrill?

Leapin' And Jumpin' On A Moon Shadow
On August 10 there is no moon. I say this because I glanced at my calendar and saw a black dot where the moon usually is. Of course there still is a moon but it is not being struck by sunlight at all so it is shaded black. That got me wondering about what would earth be like without a moon to influence it. A scientist named Bernard Foing wrote an article about it and he said:
"If you would take away the Moon suddenly, it would change the global altitude of the ocean. Right now there is a distortion which is elongated around the equator, so if we didn’t have this effect, suddenly a lot of water would be redistributed toward the polar regions."
He also said:
"The Moon has been a stabilizing factor for the axis of rotation of the Earth. If you look at Mars, for instance, that planet has wobbled quite dramatically on its axis over time due to the gravitational influence of all the other planets in the solar system. Because of this obliquity change, the ice that is now at the poles on Mars would sometimes drift to the equator. But the Earth’s moon has helped stabilize our planet so that its axis of rotation stays in the same direction. For this reason, we had much less climatic change than if the Earth had been alone. And this has changed the way life evolved on Earth, allowing for the emergence of more complex multi-cellular organisms compared to a planet where drastic climatic change would allow only small, robust organisms to survive."
So the moon would not only affect ocean levels and tides it would affect our ability to enjoy those tides. We could hardly hang ten if we were only as developed as a starfish or sea grape.
Let's not forget the moon. Especially when it is completely out of sight on August 10. I'm declaring this "moon remembrance and appreciation night". How you celebrate is your own business. Me? I'll be sipping a cool frosty in honor of la luna.

Upwardly Tipped Off
Ever find yourself wanting to learn about a place, maybe a destination you are headed to, and you don't know anyone you can ask or anyone who has been there? I surfed over to yelp.com this morning and accidentally found "real reviews" from "real people", as the advert says.
But when I checked out a few places in my town I already knew all about, I found that the comments were....RIGHT On ThE MONEY! (Both the positives and negs.) Check it out and get informed all up the ying-yang. Or up the wazoo. Or up wherever you get things 'upped' in your crib.

and I once went 90 days without a vacation day....whew, i'll shut up about that
This bit of info from jpl....
NASA's plucky Voyager 2 spacecraft has hit a long-haul operations milestone today (June 28) -- operating continuously for 12,000 days. For nearly 33 years, the venerable spacecraft has been returning data about the giant outer planets, and the characteristics and interaction of solar wind between and beyond the planets. Among its many findings, Voyager 2 discovered Neptune's Great Dark Spot and its 450-meter-per-second (1,000-mph) winds.
The two Voyager spacecraft have been the longest continuously operating spacecraft in deep space. Voyager 2 launched on August 20, 1977, when Jimmy Carter was president. Voyager 1 launched about two weeks later on Sept. 5. The two spacecraft are the most distant human-made objects, out at the edge of the heliosphere -- the bubble the sun creates around the solar system. Mission managers expect Voyager 1 to leave our solar system and enter interstellar space in the next five years or so, with Voyager 2 on track to enter interstellar space shortly after that.

Forward to the past
As they like to say, "the future is today, worry about it tomorrow."
Well tonite at 9 cst Futurama returns to television
(after being off for six years). How it was brought back is another story.
Rejoice, meatbags!
That crazy little show about a delivery boy in the year 3000 is finally back on the air.
The fansite is in the links to the right if you need a fix of fry, leela, bender and the rest before tonite.
Come back and comment.

sometimes i wonder what i'm a-gonna do, when the cosmic jellyfish starts eatin' my shoe
You never get the blues in the summer, unless The Who says so. (And there is a "space jellyfish" roving around the cosmos.) These two topics could be related. It's up to you to tell if they are.

Wasn't it once 'Fundileeicious'? Why can't it now be 'ice-creamtastic'
Admit it.
Ok now what are you gonna order?
Are you a :
Dipped cone
Swirl
Blizzard
Milkshake
....and what is your choice of size?
This tells us quite a bit about you. If you order a safety cone small vanilla you must be a meek, gentle, non-risk-taker. If you order a swirl, you are open to new things. If you order a dipped you enjoy the finer things in life. If you order a blizzard you are a fortune hunter who like challenges. If you order a milkshake you are a person of action.
If you order a large you want it all and must live large. (And maybe BE large too.)

you'll write me again this time?
Beach Boys trivia....
Dennis was the only surfer.
Brian was nearly deaf in one ear.
Pet Sounds was considered the greatest album ever made by Sir Paul. The Who agreed.
You know they almost changed their name to "Beach" in the late 70s to be more hip?
Brian was so pissed at capitol records in the early 70s he taped recorded one word answers on cassette and played those responses in meetings. (Not talking himself.) Some of the words were four letters long. Can you guess any of them?
Brian, Bruce, Mike, Al are still out there jamming (not together, but in various bands). RIP Dennis and Carl.

The Triction Of It
One person emailed me to ask me to please not stop the music. Awwwww! That was schooo schweeet! But most of you probably don't care anymore. So I'm still going to shut the music off. To that one person I'd say this: just go to youtube and type in the song you want, believe me, it'll be on there.
Now on to today's business...
Words.
Yes, words.
They are getting blended more and more.
We've had splendiferous for some time; and we've had ginormous for a decade. Now we seem to have webtastic and blogonomy. If you got any combos share them. Like, for instance, truth and fiction.
Asta la bye-bye.

Whistle While You (Avoid) Work
SONGSTERS———Do you have a song you'd like to hear?
Make a request and I'll play it (if I can find it in my stax o wax.
I think I'm going to take down the music portion of the blog in the coming weeks. (I'll still play the occasional video plus music but I will cease my own tunes thru hipcast.)
So....get your request in soon if you want to hear something. Shut down date will probably by the beginning of June. (I'll try to rock hard in the weeks leading up to it.)
Want some CAKE? I got it. How bout some Joe Walsh? Can do. Maybe a little Supersuckers, or Buffett, or possibly some oldies or 70s or punk? Maybe you feel the need to hear some jazz? Let me know before it's all over.
MOVIEGOERS———Oh....anybody see the flick Pirate Radio? It's funky and groovy and it rocks like mad! Watched it recently and I give it a thumbs up just cause of the rock n roll spirit it gives off.
WEBHEADS———I'll update my 'cool sites' soon. Watch for an unusual and pretty nifty role-playing blog I've found too. It's dark and mysterious and absurdly funny (which is the best kind).

fifty flower five
If 4-30 is arbor day and 5-1 is may day and 5-2 is 50 years of rockin wls radio and dick biondi day and 5-4 is teacher day and then 5-5 is cinco de mayo.....then what is 5-3 day?
I guess it's up to us to name 5-3 day. I propose it be called 'perhaps' day. It's just a word that sounds like what it means. It should be celebrated. Anyone, perhaps, second that?

taking the pulse of the cosmos
This is the type of space chart that makes sense, doesn't it?
Chemicals flying around in deep space,
being charted on graphs!
(click on image for a view that you can actually read!)

There seems to be quite a lot going on in this song even though he recorded it in one day. Simply great tune from BW. Don't worry baby.

Turn your smile on
If you're not 'out driving on slow hand road,' as they say in the song, or staying home to 'play games I don't know,' as THAT song also says, you might just be trying to launch yourself into the month of Januvictus (from the romans) in your own unique way.
I personally like to flow into it as I do everything, drifting. Not much to brag about but it works for me.
Here's this next thing:
Do you tweet? Do you facebook? Are you a flickr-er? What about that other thing business people use for networking, that online whachamacallit? Well I'm able to just barely keep up with all this stuff. I actually tweeted yesterday for the second time in two years.
Anyways, I think it's a generational thing. You know what I mean? Kids today have gadgets coming out of every ear and pocket and in every hand. Now what about the older ones. Take for instance our parents. For the most part, they want nothing to do with all this technology. They can barely turn the television set on. Okay. But their parents were unimpressed with all the newfangled gadgets of their middle age. "Shut that damn panasonic portable radio off, it's too loud."
We all go to a comfort level that we can deal with and understand and that's good enuff for us.
Observation: don't you want (need) to get away from it now and then? I do. I'm happy not to turn my computer on for a whole weekend and couldn't care less if my cell phone rings or not. (I'd rather it not.) I don't want an i anything and I don't want to text or for that matter email either. I like talking to people I meet (I talk to anybody) and they like talking.
I've found that almost everybody wants to say "hi" and laugh about something and just wish each other well. We are sociable creatures. Our social need is stitched into our souls. No amount of faceless gadgetry is going to sate our need to say hi face-to-face and to smile and tell a joke. It's what we do.
And when I run across a person who doesn't I'm always a little saddened for them and what they are missing. The world is a big interesting place and people make it so.
At Fresh Farms recently I went to purchase a couple my favorite ruby red giant grapefruit and got in line behind a young couple who had manuevered a shopping cart exploding with purchase items up to the checkout station. They immediately noticed me behind them and asked if I would like to go in front of them. I didn't want to do that but they insisted and joked at how slow they were. We joked back and forth and I did go in front. This was quite nice and I thanked them and went to the clerk to pay. I smiled and told the clerk maybe she'll have to give them at least 10 percent off for being such nice folks and they were laughing and joking with me. All the while this checkout person never looked up, never smiled, never said a word to me or them. I noticed she had a cell phone sticking out of her hand and a headset around her neck (but off) and I felt kinda sad for this kid-to be that detached to the world right around her. (But so connected via gadgetry!!!)
What I'm trying to say in this long-winded way is this: gadgets are great but when the power fails don't you immediately seek out people to laugh and joke with and to check on their well-being? Again, we go to our comfort level.
I'd hope people get a little less connected and a little more chatty in the year 2010. Even this blog itself is a detriment to getting out and meeting people. (That's why I blog less and less and am probably going to cease sometime this year.)
Have a great day all. Get out and embrace the people in your world. Live large! Don't let technology rule you. Go say hi and joke with a few strangers today for no reason at all. You'll be surprised at how good you feel.
Buh-Bye.
