Park, Peace and Parking

THESE DAYS

Monday, September 21, is the International Day of Peace. Do something peaceful on Monday to show your Ghandi-like qualities to celebrate this one day of the year where peace reigns. —One day!— Leave the other 364 days alone. They are NOT meant to be peaceful in any sort of international way. Okay? ....But they could be peaceful in a county, state or municipal sort of way, couldn't they??

Tuesday, September 22, besides being the Autumnal Equinox, is international car-free day (not carefree day) CAR-FREE, as in, don't drive day. I have no graphic for this but we can use our imaginations here. Imagine if you will, all the roads on the planet empty for one day! That would be the day a film crew should go out and film a sci-fi movie! But you'd have to equally imagine all the hotels, gas stations, mall parking lots, rest-stops and truck-stops jammed with autos and trucks. There'd be no room to park anywhere if all cars pulled off the roads.

NATURE
Here's what the Sierra Club is saying....
We're on the edges of our camp chairs in anticipation of the new Ken Burns documentary, "The National Parks: America's Best Idea." Friends of the Sierra Club have organized over 750 house parties around the country on or around September 20, where they'll screen a special sneak-preview DVD about the series and share national park experiences.
